PROCEDURE
FORD:

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1992 GRAND MARQUIS, TOWN CAR
ISSUE:
The "D" ring weld nuts used to attach the front seat shoulder safety belt "D" ring height adjuster module to the body "B" pillar may be stripped if over
tightened. A "D" Ring Weld Nut Repair Kit and service procedure have been developed for service use. This procedure does not appear in the 1992
Lincoln Town Car, Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual.
ACTION:
If stripped weld nuts used to attach the module to the body "B" pillar are encountered, use the Rotunda "D" Ring Weld Nut Thread Repair Kit
134-00018 or equivalent and the service procedure outlined in this TSB to repair them.
The Rotunda "D" Ring Height Adjuster Weld Nut Thread Repair Kit 134-00018 or equivalent contains the following items.

1 - Thread Insert Installation Tool

1 - Drill 1/2 Inch (Piloted With Integral Stop)

1 - Tap M14 x 1.5 (With Integral Stop)

6 - (N807170-S190) Thread Insert M10 x 1.5

SERVICE PROCEDURE
REPAIR PROCEDURE FOR STRIPPED WELD NUTS USED TO ATTACH THE FRONT SEAT SHOULDER SAFETY BELT "D" RING
ADJUSTER TO THE BODY "B" PILLAR ASSEMBLY.
1.
Obtain one Rotunda Equipment "D" Ring Adjuster Weld Nut Thread Repair Kit (Part No. 134-00018).
2.
With the "B" pillar interior trim panel removed, (refer to Section 01-05 of the appropriate 1992 Service Manual), drill out the damaged threads in
the upper "B" pillar structure using the 1/2 inch drill provided in the kit.
3.
Apply a suitable lubricant to the threads of the M14 x 1.5 tap provided in the kit and tap the new threads.
NOTE:
AFTER EACH ROTATION, BACK OFF SLIGHTLY TO REMOVE NEW CUTTINGS AND BE SURE TO BLOW OUT ANY CHIPS BEFORE
PERFORMING STEP 4.

Select one of the thread inserts provided in the kit and hand screw it into the re-tapped hole until it is slightly below the surface of the hole.
5.
After insertion of the thread insert, use a 12 oz. hammer to lightly tap the installation tool (provided in the kit) several times to drive down the
insert "kees".
NOTE:
THE DRIVE "KEES" ON THE INSERT WILL ACT AS AN AUTOMATIC STOP.
a.
If the two hex head attaching bolts on the height adjuster module are not stripped, install the height adjuster module to the body structure.
b.
If the height adjuster module attaching bolts are stripped, replace the height adjuster module and install it to the body structure as stated in Step 6.
